Lulu’s Furniture & Decor

Lulu’s Furniture & Decor is a Denver-based boutique owned by a mother-daughter team, selling hip furnishings & an eclectic array of home furniture, accessories & gifts. A member of the Rowe retailer family since opening in 2007, Lulu’s specializes in a timeless aesthetic with a contemporary twist, blending traditional and modern styles with a touch of the unexpected.

“Our staff pretty much includes my mom (our founder) Christy Vranesic Brant and myself! We are the most unconventional, fly by the seat of your pants business, and miraculously it works for us. We make a good team. Furniture is in our blood, as we come from a long line of reps and store owners — I believe there’s 28 people in our immediate family associated with this industry.”

Lulu’s Top 3 Ways to Support Local Biz:

  • Ask your neighbors where they shop and what they’re doing to be supportive.
  • REACH OUT!  We have given out our cell phones to meet with people virtually, and we’ve become available more so than before.
  • Shop local when possible. I reached out to a local farm and purchased a bunch of produce and dairy products to avoid going to the grocery store.

What makes your shop unique?

We believe in authenticity and personality. We still have a cash register and a landline, and we hand write our thank you notes. Almost everything in our store is produced by an actual human being, not machines, and we strive to avoid anything and everything that is associated with Amazon!

How does your shop make customers feel?

People tell us all the time that they come in to get inspired and because they feel better when they’re in there. We have a good mix of styles, and I think anyone coming in would be able to envision something in their home.

What's on your store playlist?

This is always a struggle! Currently, we’ve had a mix of The White Buffalo, Childish Gambino, Smokey Robinson, and Iggy Pop.

What are you looking forward to showcasing next season?

I’m always excited for what’s a bit unexpected. I’m loving the fact that pieces are more polished. We just partnered with Mitchell Black and I can’t wait for our customers to see the wallpaper we chose.

What do you love about working with Rowe?

We love working with Rowe for a lot of reasons, but on a business level Rowe has a solid mixture of pieces ranging in styles, seat options and fabrics, all at a reasonable price. We also like that Rowe is approachable to our consumers and is one of the few furniture manufacturers who has embraced and excelled at social media. Plus, no one else has a Rothko.

What's the most memorable moment that has occurred in your shop?

It seems like there are always strange things happening in the shop. One of my favorite moments happened about six years ago at Christmas time. We had a customer who lived around the corner from our shop, and he came in and wanted to buy a Christmas tree as-is, right then. We didn’t bother to take the ornaments or lights off or disassemble the tree, we loaded it up on a dolly and away he went!

Who’s your celebrity dream customer?

Oh man, that’s a toss-up between Mick Jagger and Michelle Obama. Mick because he’s such a cool, wild guy that I know we would have a blast together, and I would like to think our style would be similar. Michelle because she’s such a classy badass!

Why is your location the perfect fit for your shop?

We have moved our shop so many times throughout the course of our business that we’re on our fifth and final location! We currently reside in Greenwood Village, a Denver suburb, in a great little shopping center two doors down from Trader Joe’s. We just passed the one year mark being here and it was definitely the right move. It feels like we’ve done the “tour de Denver” over the past 15 years moving from one part of town to the next, but it has enabled us to work with customers ranging in age, socioeconomic levels, life milestones and styles and given us the wherewithal to know we’re in a good spot.

If we pop into your store at any given moment…

I’m probably on a ladder or rearranging things and my mom is probably yelling at me to get down! There’s also a good chance my dog Whistlepig is there with us.
