Cole’s Best Tip to Support Local Biz:

Small local businesses generally not only supply more competitive pricing but also a level of service and attention that has been proven to be unmatched. I always recommend giving your small local businesses a shot and you will generally be amazed by how much more you get for your money. Supporting our small businesses will also keep them around year after year and it’s great to be able to talk with someone that cares when you need them.

What makes your shop unique?

We are a small mom and pop shop, and because of this we treat everyone as if they were family, offering quality products and attention to detail for each client's individual needs.

How does your shop make customers feel?

Cole's is truly the current "mom and pop" style showroom. Our business has been in the same location since 1946, and many customers experience the nostalgic feelings from when they were young and out shopping with their family. When customers walk through our doors, they feel comfortable and like they are at home.

What's on your store playlist?

A mixture of classics, reggae, jam and funk. We love music and play a mixture of old and new music, and tend to play a lot of New Orleans style music.

What are you looking forward to showcasing next season?

We are excited to showcase more of the new Kid Proof fabrics, which not only look and feel amazing but are the perfect fit for all of the young families that we work with. We also look forward to showcasing more of the occasional furniture.

What's the most memorable moment that has occurred in your shop?

We recently worked with a young couple who furnished their entire home with our furniture & appliances; they had found our store because their grandparents have been buying their appliances and furniture from Cole's for over 50 years and in three different homes. The couple purchased their first home and stopped in to look at appliances and after seeing all of the great furniture by Rowe & Robin Bruce, they ended up furnishing their entire home from our one store.

What do you love about working with Rowe?

Rowe has been a trusted partner of our family's business for over 30 years. The Rowe upholstery styles have proven to be the perfect fit for our shop. Our customers and designers love the capability to "design" their own furniture with the thousands of fabric options to truly make each piece of furniture one of a kind and to fit each individual's own style. Not only does the Rowe team build fantastic furniture, they also do a great job of standing behind their products. We also love how Rowe's styles have continued to improve and keep up with the trends as time moves on.

Why is your location the perfect fit for your shop?

Our family has been beyond blessed to operate our business at the same location on the North Side of Chicago since 1946. Although a lot has changed in the last 75 years, we are proud to be able to work in such a close knit neighborhood where residents have been raising their families for generations. Not only do we have a strong & loyal customer base from the neighborhood, but our neighbors have also been sending their friends and family from near and far to support our business and take advantage of what we believe to be one of Chicago's best kept secrets.

Who’s your celebrity dream customer?

Paul Newman was filming the "Color of Money" in the 1980s across the street from our store. He stopped in to look around and sat with my grandfather, Abe Krasney, while they talked and laughed. Abe said he was a very nice guy. It would have been fun to have been a fly on the wall during this conversation, and would be cool to have the same experience!

If we pop into your store at any given moment…

...Kevin will be working with clients in our loft space, there will be a fresh keg in our kegerator and The Meters will be playing through the speakers!
