Black Chalk Home & Laundry is a unique home decor and gift boutique — in an even more unique building — located in Fredericksburg, Texas. Black Chalk has been a member of the Rowe family of retailers since opening in 2017. Situated in a historic laundry building that had previously been closed for 25 years, Black Chalk is now a wonderland of eclectic furnishings and home goods curated by owner Jill Elliott.

What makes your shop unique?

I think it’s the combination of goods I’ve curated. It’s eclectic, fresh, unexpected, colorful, and family friendly. Life is a collection of things, and your house should reflect the things you have gathered and loved from your lifetime. We want to provide a cozy foundation for your life.

How does your shop make customers feel?

Black Chalk is calm. It smells good, it’s full of visual eye candy, people are welcome to sit, and we encourage “trying out” furniture. We’re friendly and warm, but not pushy. We want people to linger in the space.

What are you looking forward to showcasing next season?

OPEN DOORS!!! Without Spring 2020 High Point Market, we’ll get creative. I’m researching products for the store. I’m drawn to odd colors, great pattern and textures, and the store will be an eclectic collection of visual finds.

Who’s your celebrity dream customer?

Maybe Sandra Bullock or Reese Witherspoon -- I think they would love the store! I like their eclectic style, and they’d like both my fashion sense and home style.
