Founded in 1888 in Alexandria, South Dakota, Montgomery’s has been a member of the Rowe family of retailers since the 1990s. They are a fifth-generation family-owned business that employs 132 people, encompassing four showrooms across South Dakota and an 80,000 square foot distribution center and business office in Sioux Falls. The “M-Team” staff is made up of multi-talented interior designers, seamstresses, experts in flooring, window treatments and mattresses, customer service, merchandising, business office, marketing, warehouse, delivery, and furniture repair.

Special Services is our middle name! We offer every customer complimentary interior design service, and there’s so much more to that than meets the eye. Our design staff makes house calls and will take on any project, from a room refresh to a start-to-finish new construction build. We work with contractors, developers, and builders to make our clients’ spaces beautiful, functional, and unforgettable.

What makes your shop unique?

We have EVERYTHING for your home, including furniture and accessories, a lighting gallery, window and wall coverings, a custom workroom, and a large flooring and tile selection. Every Montgomery’s store has a Mattress 1st location on site with a whole host of mattresses, bases, pillows, and bedding. We truly offer the “Whole Home Experience.”

How does your shop make customers feel?

Our customers feel happy and sometimes a little surprised, which is a good thing! The showroom is very bright, eclectic and inviting, and you will always be greeted warmly by one of our design staff. Throughout our store, you’ll find cozy vignette areas created to give our customers design inspiration. One side of our showroom is focused on traditional pieces, the other side features more modern, contemporary furnishings.

What's on your store playlist?

Our store plays a mix of high energy but not too “out there” music, ranging from well-known favorites to new artists.

What are you looking forward to showcasing next season?

We are designing unique vignettes inspired by the popular series “Yellowstone” at each of our four locations. The vignette areas will showcase bedrooms with natural wood tones, as well as upholstered dining sets with heavy textures and bold patterns. The aesthetic will be reminiscent of the show’s look and feel, and we’re excited to show people how they can achieve that style in their home.

We asked 20 different people and got 20 different answers, from pop culture celebs to rock stars. We narrowed it down to Oprah Winfrey and Blake Lively — both are stylish and approachable.
